Gustavo Augusto Freitas de Lima

President, Administrative Council for Economic Defense of Brazil (CADE)

A member of CADE’s Tribunal since April 2022, Lima brings a strong academic background and extensive public service experience. He holds degrees in Law and Naval Sciences, a postgraduate degree in Public Law, and a Master’s degree in Law. He has also completed programs at Harvard Law School and the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV).

A federal attorney since 2006, the new CADE president previously served as Legal Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic for five years, during which he held the position of Deputy Chief for Economic Policy.

He also led the Litigation Department of the Federal Attorney General’s Office (PGF), overseeing the nationwide litigation strategy for federal agencies and foundations, with direct involvement in cases before the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and other high courts.
