The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia will examine pricing markups on essential food products after requesting data from the country’s largest retail chains.
Russia’s FAS has sent information requests to 11 major retailers, asking for data on average weighted wholesale and retail prices, as well as purchase and sales volumes for selected food products between September 1, 2025, and January 31, 2026. The review will include major chains such as X5 Group, Magnit, Dixy, Auchan, O’Key and Azbuka Vkusa.
The analysis will cover all products across 26 food categories, including a range of socially significant staple goods. These include butter and vegetable oil, cheese, milk, eggs, poultry, lamb, beef, pork, fish, tomatoes, cucumbers, beets, potatoes, cabbage, pasta, buckwheat, bread and baked goods, among others.
“This will make it possible to determine what markups retail chains apply to the most in-demand products and how changes in wholesale prices are passed on to shelf prices,”
the agency said in a statement.
If signs of antitrust law violations are identified, FAS said it will take enforcement action.
