On November 22, Rio de Janeiro hosted the 3rd BRICS+ Digital Competition Forum. The event was organized by the International BRICS Competition Law and Policy Centre in cooperation with the FGV University School of Law and the Administrative Council for Economic Defense of Brazil (CADE).
The Forum aims to bring together academics, civil society and competition authorities from the BRICS and other countries who have applied for membership in the BRICS or are considering doing so, with a view to sharing knowledge and best practices on how to deal with the challenges of digital markets. This year, participants are invited to delve into the intersections of digital ecosystems, artificial intelligence, and competition law.
The Forum included four sessions:
“Ecosystems and Competition Policy”, where experts discussed new theories of harm related to ecosystem dominance and enforcement approaches taken wordцшву.
“Digitalization of Global Food Value Chains”, where participants were asked to assess antitrust challenges associated with rapid digital change in the food industry.
“Concentrating Economic Power in AI", which examined the implications of AI partnerships and commercial agreements in the digital sector.
“Artificial Intelligence: Regulation and Use” dedicated to discussing legislative measures to ensure fair competition in the development and use of artificial intelligence technologies.
The forum also featured a seminar entitled “Ecosystems and Competition Policy", which explored new theories of harm related to ecosystem dominance and the enforcement approaches taken worldwide.
The Forum provides a unique opportunity to deepen understanding of the dynamic challenges confronting competition authorities globally, with particular focus on developments in the BRICS. The event offers to gain broader perspectives, discover new case studies, and exchange ideas with leading thinkers in the field.
