During the meeting, representatives of BRICS antitrust agencies discussed current cooperation efforts, including the status of the ongoing study of the food markets in BRICS countries, as well as preparations for the IX BRICS International Competition Conference.
The comprehensive sectoral study of the food markets is being conducted by the BRICS Working Group for Research of Competition Issues in Food Markets, with expert support from the International BRICS Competition Law and Policy Centre.

The first draft report of the study has been prepared. It outlines key trends in antitrust regulation of food markets in each BRICS member country and its partners, and highlights the challenges faced by competition authorities in enforcing laws within this sector.
The study enables a comparative analysis of food supply across BRICS countries and evaluates the effectiveness of antitrust measures in agricultural and food markets within the BRICS bloc and its partner nations.
BRICS competition agencies emphasized the importance of increased attention by antitrust authorities to the activities of global agribusiness corporations. They noted that competition policy should ensure the effective functioning of markets and support food security.
The final results of the study will be presented by the BRICS Working Group at the IX BRICS International Competition Conference, scheduled to take place in Cape Town, South Africa, in September 2025.
In conclusion, the competition regulators agreed to collaborate on the conference's business agenda and on drafting and coordinating a joint statement by the heads of BRICS competition authorities to be released following the event.
The International BRICS Competition Conference is the flagship event of the association in the field of competition policy. Held every two years, it serves as a key platform for discussing pressing issues related to antitrust regulation across BRICS nations.
