On April 23, the BRICS Working Group for the Research of Competition Issues in Digital Markets met at the Higher School of Economics. The key topic for discussion was the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and its implications for competition in the BRICS economies. The event was held as part of the International Conference - Extended Meeting of the Board of the FAS of Russia (hereinafter - the Conference), timed to coincide with the 35th anniversary of antimonopoly regulation in Russia in 2025.
The BRICS Working Group for the Research of Competition Issues in Digital Markets is co-chaired by the FAS of Russia and the Brazilian Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE).
Within this session its participants were invited to examine the experience of using AI technologies in the activities of antimonopoly authorities, to assess the extent to which the use of AI by companies harms competition, to consider specific cases, investigations by competition authorities in this area, as well as the ways to improve the legislative framework and enforcement tools to combat anticompetitive practices committed with the use of AI technologies.
