On November 14-15, HSE University hosted the IX International Conference "Antimonopoly Policy: Science, Practice, Education" co-organized by the BRICS Competition Centre and the FAS of Russia. The conference brought together regulators, experts and practitioners from Russia, BRICS and partner countries. Participants included heads and staff of antitrust agencies, lawyers and researchers from BRICS countries and Europe.
In 2024, the FAS of Russia celebrates its twentieth anniversary, the same year being the year of Russia's chairmanship in the CIS and BRICS. The opening plenary session was devoted to the results of Russia's chairmanship in the antimonopoly track and discussion of the current challenges that antimonopoly authorities are facing today amid the economic transformation and the increasing influence of technology and innovation.
The topic of the second plenary session was the development of commodity and raw materials exchange trading in Russia and coordination on the creation of the BRICS Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange.
The conference also included a meeting of the BRICS Working Group on Cartels, where the strengthening of inter-agency cooperation to detect and combat cartels was discussed. In addition, the conference agenda included a discussion of the problems of pricing in food markets and the role of competition authorities in this regard, as well as the current challenges of antimonopoly regulation in financial markets.
